August was a month of joyful reunions, fresh beginnings, and meaningful discoveries. After our summer pause, it was so sweet to welcome both new and returning families back into the rhythm of classes.

From art and handwork to baking and nature study, the children filled each week with curiosity, creativity, and laughter.

Baking, Crafting, and Community

August brought fresh faces and joyful energy to the Hummingbirds and Cardinals. Baking was a highlight, so much so that it happened twice! Snickerdoodles and blueberry scones filled the air with sweetness and gave everyone a chance to practice patience and teamwork.

Crafting was equally abundant, with children creating watercolor paintings, miniature camping tents, imaginative maps, and cheerful bird decorations. Many families also joined our Acorn School camping trip, where friendships and memories deepened around the campfire and in the woods.

Joyful Return

August was extra special for the Finches, as their teacher returned after nearly a year away. The children welcomed her back with warmth, and together they learned finger knitting, crafting colorful jump ropes, and making beautiful window transparencies to display proudly in the gym.

Baking was a sweet treat, enjoyed by all. With every introduction, song, and instruction carried out in Spanish, the children’s eagerness to learn and participate made the classroom feel especially alive and joyful.

Brave Adventures & Brushstrokes

This month, the Owls stepped into the enchanting world of The Wind in the Willows, delighting in the adventures of Mole, Rat, and Toad. In art study, they explored the bold and dynamic paintings of Peter Paul Rubens, with St. George and the Dragon capturing their imaginations most of all.

With paintbrushes in hand, the children created watercolors inspired by Rubens, giving them a deeper appreciation for the artistry and effort behind great works. Poetry by Christina Rossetti added a gentle rhythm to our weeks, while nature study brought new wonders through picture books about the sun, animal eyes, and desert life.

Stitching, Stories, and Spanish

The Bluejays spent the month creating with both their hands and their words. With careful focus, they practiced the blanket stitch, shaping and sewing their own summer star child. Baking cookies and scones added delicious fun, while window transparencies became a final week’s highlight.

Storytelling in teams using Spanish vocabulary words continued to be a favorite activity, giving the children the joy of inventing tales while immersing themselves fully in the language. A day of rock climbing added adventure and excitement to their month!

“All of our instruction and conversations are carried out in Spanish, which makes storytelling even more special.” - Ms. Pati

Beeswax Magic & Circle Time Joy

Our youngest groups, the Little Roses and Little Marigolds, filled their days with play and discovery. Circle time became even sweeter with the arrival of “Little Sprout,” a plush friend who joined in songs and stories. Beeswax modeling brought moments of awe as children blended colors with their warm hands, watching them marble and transform.

Wet-on-wet watercolor painting gave them the chance to soak their own papers and explore color mixing, sparking delight in each new shade they created.

A Weekend in the Woods: Acorn School Camping Trip

One of the highlights of August was our Acorn School camping trip in Pinedale. Some families camped for the whole weekend, while others joined as a day trip, but everyone left with the joy of time spent together in the forest.

Between the tall trees, children ran, played, and explored, while parents shared food, laughter, and conversation. It was a grounding and memorable time, strengthening our sense of community.

A Special Announcement

We are overjoyed to share the wonderful news that our beloved teacher, Mrs. Emily, is expecting a baby! Her gentle guidance and heartfelt teaching have been such a gift to our Owls class, and the warmth and care she has poured into our community will be cherished for years to come.

As she prepares for this beautiful new chapter, Mrs. Emily will continue teaching through October. At that time, our Owls class will come to a close, holding all the sweet memories we’ve made together.

In the spirit of honoring those memories, we we're excited to announce a new Charlotte Mason–inspired class to take the place of the Owls on Thursdays beginning in November, the Cactus Wrens!

The Cactus Wrens Charlotte-Mason Inspired Class

This Charlotte Mason–inspired science and literature class invites children ages 5–8 to explore nature and story with curiosity and wonder. Each week we'll weave together nature journaling, science through living books, and rich literature discussions, paired with time for free play outdoors.

This special class will be led by Ms. Olivia Azevedo, and will provide a warm, engaging environment rooted in the Charlotte Mason philosophy. They will begin meeting Thursday mornings at Mother Nature’s Farm.

Spaces are limited and fill up quickly, so please save your spot soon by joining the waitlist. You can join the waitlist here!

Welcome September

August was a month of sweet returns, new beginnings, and cherished moments. As we step into September, we look forward to more stories, more discoveries, and more time spent together as a community.
