The first days of autumn brought energy, creativity, and a sense of wonder to Acorn School.

Our classes were full of lively hands, thoughtful moments, and sweet celebrations, with each group finding its own rhythm of learning and joy.

Sweet Treats and Dragons

The month was filled with activity for the Hummingbirds and Cardinals, and the children truly shined in the kitchen. They baked their own little treats—sugar cookies and peach muffins—measuring, mixing, and carefully watching as their creations took shape. At the craft table, they made moon-inspired jewelry that sparkled with imagination and colorful dragon hand puppets, each one with its own personality and flair.

It was a delight to see the uniqueness of each child shine through in their puppet creations. September was also full of birthdays, and the children celebrated one another with love by creating beautiful pictures for birthday books. These thoughtful, handmade gifts brought so much joy and sweetness to our gatherings.

“The kids are getting really good at baking their own little treats.” - Ms. Olivia

Stories, Songs, and Art

The Owls spent their days moving between story, song, and art with curiosity and depth. They read The Jungle Book, drawing connections to courage, friendship, and wild adventures. In art, the focus was on Raphael, whose works included a painting of St. George and the Dragon—an echo of last month’s artist, giving the children a chance to compare and reflect. Poetry remained a highlight as they read Christina Rossetti’s verses, enjoying her gentle language and imagery.

For nature study, the children listened to parables, offering their own thoughtful narrations in response. Music filled their painting and tea times as Felix Mendelssohn’s compositions played softly in the background, giving the children a quiet focus and helping them linger longer in their artwork.

“For nature study, we read various nature parables and the children did a great job with their narrations during those!” - Ms. Emily

Magic and Play

Autumn’s magic was alive for the Little Roses and Little Marigolds. The children listened eagerly to more tales of Luna, Sol, and Cosmos, the beloved dragon family, and their new fall adventures. With watercolors, they sprinkled salt onto their wet paintings and watched with wide eyes as star-like patterns slowly appeared, turning their pages into little skies full of wonder.

Clay brought another kind of joy, as they rolled it smooth with wooden pins and pressed in patterns to see new textures emerge. Circle time was brightened with a special shooting star game, where the children tossed little stars into a basket at the center, cheering for one another as they played. Every gathering was filled with laughter, imagination, and the gentle rhythm of fall.

Michaelmas Festival

We ended the month with the joy and brightness of our Michaelmas Festival. Stories, songs, and crafts brought the children together as we celebrated courage, light, and the changing season.

It was a beautiful way to mark the turning of the year and to step together into the golden days of autumn.
