October was such a sweet and lively month, with children diving into learning and seasonal fun. From crafting and storytelling to nature walks and Spanish lessons, each group found their own way to explore and celebrate autumn’s wonders. We loved watching their creativity and curiosity blossom with every project and discovery!

Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to this month:

Spiders, Ghosts, and Spanish Fun

October has been a vibrant month in the Blue Jays classroom, filled with language learning, creativity, and hands-on projects. Our Spanish vocabulary lessons were a big hit, with the joy of connecting language to daily activities evident as students eagerly followed instructions and embraced new words without hesitation!

On the creative side, the Blue Jays put remarkable effort into their embroidered ghost projects, with each student adding unique touches to their designs.

“Students came to class ready to share their own cool facts about spiders and some even provided whole written reports on them-  just because they wanted to!” - Ms. Emily

Celebrating Fall with Crafts and Stories

Celebrating Fall with Crafts and Stories The Cardinals, Hummingbirds, and Finches have embraced the fall season through a variety of autumn-themed crafts. From sewing and finger knitting to crafting with beeswax, they dove into the season’s festivities!

Blending Fun with Learning

Each activity has brought a new layer of discovery, encouraging curiosity and a love for nature. Through their Halloween-inspired, not-so-spooky stories and crafts, the children’s creativity has bloomed. Their days have included learning about bats and spiders and spotting local animals during nature walks.

"The kids did an amazing job with the sewing, finger knitting, and beeswax crafts this month." - Ms. Olivia

Music, Art, and the Joy of Nature

Our Owls have been busy with an enriching curriculum, exploring literature, music, and art! This month’s reading has been The Cricket in Times Square, sparking thoughtful conversations and imaginative responses. They have also studied the life and works of composer Frederic Chopin, who many agreed is their favorite so far! The Owls also learned about Homer’s paintings, adding another layer to their growing catalog of artistic knowledge.

Exploring the Outdoors

The Owls have also expanded their love for art, literature, and nature on their nature walks this month. The children collected “nature treasures” along the way and captured their findings in their nature notebooks, using drawings, captions, and even poetry. The month’s final treat was hibiscus rose tea, which everyone loved!

"Many children said Chopin was their favorite composer we’ve studied thus far and I agree!" - Ms. Emily

Pumpkin Painting Festival

This month, we kicked off our October Festival with a festive pumpkin-painting afternoon at the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, where students, families, and teachers gathered to celebrate fall. Our first event of the season was held in the scenic preserve, surrounded by Arizona’s natural beauty. Families brought pumpkins marked with their children’s names, and the kids dove into decorating with vibrant colors and creative designs. As they painted, they enjoyed spotting local wildlife and exploring the lush surroundings, making for a truly memorable start to our October festivities.

Pumpkin Patch Outing at Mother Nature's Farm

Following the festival, our community gathered for a fun-filled outing to the pumpkin patch at Mother Nature’s Farm! Students and families had the chance to roam the farm, pick out their very own pumpkins, and get a sneak peek of the beautiful location where our outdoor classes will be held starting in November. The outing was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to connect with nature and celebrate the season in a hands-on way. We’re so excited to return to Mother Nature’s Farm soon for more learning and exploration!
